Default Cheap bare minimum auto insurance?

I'm not going to be driving much as I live in the city. Will subway/bus to work, and probably only drive my car once a week (on weekends).

I'm looking to get the cheapest possible state-required liability insurance for it.

Any suggestions as to who to use? This is my first car ever, so I don't really know anything about car ownership or insurance.

All suggestions welcome!

Geico, Progressive, State Farm are all good options. Ask around in your specific area.

Thanks. I'm looking for something a bit cheaper than those guys. They seem to all quote me around the same price. Would using a smaller, less well-known company be smart?

Insurance is insurance. You arne't likely go get THAT much better of a deal. If it is, it's probably not a good idea. The idea of insurance is to pay out when necessary, and those companies are reputable companies. You don't want to have the company not pay out.

so far, usaa has the best rates of any of the big guys i found. unfortunately, u gotta be military to get qualified for them. i'm trying to see if they will accept my application. my dad is a war vet, and they say they can accept military family as policy holders.

the absolute cheapest i found, however, was from this company for just $45/month. they seem small time though, so I wanna see if USAA comes through before I decide to use a tiny, local company.

That's not an insurance company.
