"off road use only" that says it all. Definitely illegal on public roads. As a matter of fact "blackouts" are illegal as well, but are removable for street use. Anything that reduces the effectiveness of the lights on a vehicle is not going to be street legal.

In the UK as long as the brake, reverse and indicators show the correct colour through the tint its fine. You are not allowed to tint reflectors

Heh My Octane booster says "for off road use only" I still use it :P. I don't know about tail light, but alot of people in my area have Dark ass tints on windows though, and I don't want to find out the hard way about tail lights

Octane boost is a little different that taillights. Taillight tinting is a safety issue, it makes them less visible. If you want to try it, go right ahead. Worst case scenario: car gets impounded, you get a ticket, and have to have it removed.

I wouldn't do it because I have been behind people with "blackouts" on their taillights, and if the sun is behind you, or in your face, they are next to impossible or impossible to see.

The dumbest thing I ever saw was a friend bought a truck, and the previous owner had put 5% light transmittance window tint film on the HEADLIGHTS!

You can lightly smoke the tail lights, as for the front the tinted look is actually painted to make the lights appear darker

I got a warning that required me to get my tail lights fixed because one of my yellow bulb linkers had turned white. This was not in my current car but in a old ford aspire that I sold a while ago. The stupid blinker lights are amber but after years of use they turn white. Of course that was the only reason for him pulling me over and Of course those white tail lights are common amongst drunk drivers and drug users.
