Default Time to get real

Okay, so the Volvo is turning out to be a bit more expensive than I anticipated. I can afford it but I need to free up some capital.

Ideas for reasonably fast cars (0-60 in 7ish), $7000 or less? Gotta be reasonably reliable too. I prefer hatchbacks but can go for a coupe. Here's ideas I have so far:

BMW 3-series coupe. There's a lot of 330ci's around me (Austin, TX) that are in that range.

MK4 GTI, I'd want a VR6 but they're pretty hard to find.

EP3 Civic Si (02-05)

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Well you're complaining about expensive maintenance, so that pretty much strikes anything German off your list...which leaves one.

Maintenance has been ok for now, though I'd only bought the thing with 65k and am now at 75k miles and had it under warranty most of the time.

Any ideas you can add to the pot?

Thoughts on a Lexus SC 300/400 or an IS 300?

Both 300's have the N/A version of the Supra engine, the SC 400 has the V8. It'll be tough to find them in manual but I'll deal.

IS 300s are cool. Anything else to me smells like old fart.

But hey, you drive a Volvo, so that's no big

Hehe touche.

I like the IS300's too, they are tough to find in manual though. And they usually fetch a premium particularly with that option.

That being said I don't think I'd terribly mind an automatic especially with an engine as nice as the 2J. Almost all of the ones I've found in my range are well over 100k though... not sure about the high mileage reliability of these guys.
