Default Engine swap

I was just wondering if it would be possible to put a faster engine in my vibe, what I would have to do to make it work and how much it would cost.

Here we go again...

We've told you time and time again that the Vibe is a **** platform for modding, particularly an engine swap. I would be surprised if you were to find a larger/more powerful engine that's a direct bolt on. Any other engine is going to require extensive custom work to get it to fit and work properly. Could cost you up to 10k easily if you're doing the job properly. And this is your DD right? Horrible idea.

If you want to work on a cheap platform that has easy swaps like this, a Nissan 240SX can be had for cheap (check zilvia forums: http://zilvia.net/f/forumdisplay.php?f=20). They come stock with a KA24DE. Swaps to the famous SR20DET are extremely common and provide a whole ton of power for the weight. You can probably find one with a SR20DET swap already done for 3-5k.

Another great platform for swapping is Subaru Imprezas. Chances are you can find a good, cheap GC8 and do a swap with a '00/'01+ WRX engine.

Way, way, way more aftermarket support for either of these than you'll ever find for your vibe.

Dont leave out the good old MK3 supra or even MK4 supra platforms. Easy to mod and capable of damn near anything.

Well, that's yet another of your famously subjective questions.

How much do you want to spend? $8000 is pretty steep for a 240 even in fantastic condition. That one is also extensively modified which I would be apprehensive about.

If you're patient I bet you can find one with a SR20 swap done already in the $4-5k range.

The most reliable car is a stock one.

Without a doubt. He could probably find a stock 240 (with a KA24) N/A for even cheaper.

I realize that Mike, this is not going to be my reliable car, that would be my vibe. This would be my toy car which i don't want something thats going to break down but it doesn't have to be a camry either.
