Default Car is binding up!

Sometimes when I am driving my tires bind up and i have to fight my car to go forward. I also can sometimes hear a vibrating/humming noise when I slow down to come to a stop. Is this a problem with my 4x4 or my transfer case, or even my brakes? Let me know what you think

Some information about WHAT you are driving would help.

If your 4x4 car is in 4x4 while on the pavement it will bind up. If you are on a slight down hill slope it should roll easy when in neutral.

If could also be brakes. You need to eliminate the 4x4 as a cause first.

sorry I thought I mentioned it. I drive an 03 dodge ram 1500 SLT 4x4. It is never in 4x4 on the road, I never engage the 4 wheel drive, but it almost feels as if it is slipping out of 2 wheel drive and into 4x4 without me shifting.

It is possible the your truck IS going into 4wd, or 4wd is not releasing when it should.

You will need to get the front wheels off the ground. Spin one front wheel, the opposite wheel should not spin. If it does, grab both front wheels and try to spin one while holding the other stationary. If you cannot do this it is still in 4wd.

Okay so tested it out today and it was okay. Besides a little resistance, both wheels spun freely.

If the fronts spin fine, check the rears to make sure your rear brakes aren't dragging.

If you have a limited slip rear end, both wheels will spin the same direction when you spin one.

If the rear wheels spin OK then it's likely just heavy rolling tires with a lot of resistance.

alright so I jacked up the truck this morning and both tires spun smoothly at the same time, indicating a limited slip rear end. My truck still has a warranty so I may just bring it to the mechanic and say " tell me everything that is wrong and see if it is covered."

Did they spin the same direction or opposite?

same direction. Everything seems to be fine when the car is jacked up and stationary.

it could be alimited slip..but i'm wondering also if the diff is welded. that would make it bind up for sure.
