Default What happens when car is in the showroom for too long?

Hi everyone!

I looked at a 2013 used Ford truck with 14k miles on it. It was in the showroom so they had to bring it outside. They told me they had to jump it and to not turn off the engine. I haven't heard of having to jump a car since the early nineties so I initially thought something might be wrong with the car. But maybe I'm wrong? Do they discharge the battery and disconnect something when they put a car in the showroom?

In addition to that, after the test drive the car smelled like burned plastic. I know this smell from test driving brand new cars, but was surprised to smell it on the used vehicle. Do you guys know where that smell might be coming from?

The battery is disconnected for safety reasons. If it was not disconnected it was likely run down from people playing with stuff.

The smell is likely under coating or the protective coating on the exhaust.
