Question Can shifting gears while an RPM of 1500 to 2000is maintained cause engine damage?

I drive a 2004 accent with the following specs:Engine Description: 1.5L 94bhp In-line SOHC
Engine Displacement(cc): 1495
Maximum Power: 94 @ 5,550 ([email protected])
Maximum Torque: 12.5 @ 3,500 ([email protected])
Now from my driving school I learnt that its best to maintain a speed of 50 to 60 kmph on the 5th gear for fuel efficiency. To do this I shift to the 2nd gear at about 20, 3rd at around 30 and 35, 4th at 40 above and then 5th at around 51 to 55. My car shows no signs of a struggle while I accelerate into the gear and the rpm is maintained between 1500 to 2000.

My friend told me that this is a sure shot way of ruining the engine, is that true? Will my engines life decrease if I continue to drive the way I do?

IMO your friend is full of ****. No idea why he would think this is the case.

I personally don't like to sit below 2k RPM because that's what downshifting is for (engine responsiveness if I want to accelerate) but in your case I don't see why this is a problem.
