Exclamation I need help identifying this piece?

This morning I was dropping off my boyfriend at school, when I went over the speed bump this fell off of my car. I was going slow but the speed bump is ridiculously high. I think it is the catalytic converter. There is a string on it because I tied it so to get home. I was wondering if this is a urgent fix or if I can take my time repairing this? I own a monte carlo 2002.

That is the coneection flange between the cat and the muffler. looks like your post cat O2 sensor is mounted in it. I'd say a good exhaust shop should be able to fix it up for a couple hours of labor and maybe $150 in parts depending on how rare that exhaust segment is.

In terms of urgency, it won't hurt the car to run with it like that, but it should throw a CEL and your car may not run as efficiently, and will definitely be a little loud.

Yeah won't hurt anything to run it that way. Long as nothing else is going to fall off.
