Default Electric Roadster

Tesla has created an electric sportscar that does 0-60 in 4 seconds and can go 250 miles on a full charge. Check it out

Did you watch the episode of Monster Garage where they made a 57 chevy into an electric dragster using just 18 Volt Milwaukee cordless tool batteries, it was actually quite fast for an old car running off tool batteries - ran low 14s in the 1/4 mile and was able to do really nice burnouts.

The only downfalls of this car are the $100,000+ price and the fact that only 100 are being made last I heard, it is a phenomenal achievement though, proof that electric cars are awesome.

It's the first real car that people will want to buy that just shows what the electrics can do, I think this and hydrogen are the most promising fuels of the furture

Hydrogen! yuck! So I have seen the tesla, I was like awesome, till I saw 94 grand, no thanks. I have always wanted an electric car, because electric rocks! I have been looking on the net for some kinda forum or something where people get together and talk about building them. I haven't found anything yet, but I would like to know what it takes to build one of these beasts. I know it doesn't cost 100,000 to make one. Mabye take a little Miata and get a good sized 3 phase in her and a good amount of Lipo's. Does anyone know any good sites about people makeing them?

Jacob

the main expense on an electric car, beside the exotic material used to keep it really light, is the battery. to store enough power for the car to be able to travel reasonable amount of distance per "tank", it requires a sizable battery network that is not only heavy, but also expensive. also, like batteries of other types, the amount of power the battery able to hold is inversely proportion to the number of charge-discharge cycles; in simple terms, longer the battery is used = less power the battery will hold. the best bet to solve the problem batteries, as far as i know, is to replace the conventional chemical batteries with capacitor batteries. capacitor batteries are lighter than the chemical ones because they are basically two conducting plates with some sort of insulator sandwich in between. they also recharge faster, and can go through more charge-discharge cycles than chemical ones. the major problem is that a capacitor battery will hold less power than a chemical battery of the same size

94000.00 to drive by every gas station. or
106,000.00 for a hummer that cannot drive past one.
the forum your looking for is on you tube.
they talk to each other, post videos of work, and share ideas.
you can get a 36 to 48 volt motor off ebay for around 300 or less.
