You gotta give us more criteria. Otherwise, we would be naming anything. What will you use this car for? Would you regularly need to carry lots of people, or carry lots of cargo? And then there is stuff thats merely personal prference. Like me for example, My next car is definitely not going to be FWD. Tell us what you want/need and then we'll come up with suggestions.

Hmm...I suggest if you want a reliable car, get a Subaru. But if you want something a little fast, an older BMW would fit very nicely.

Yeah older BMW or VW, 2.0L engine for that little kick, or VR6 for an even bigger kick.

I would suggest the VW over the BMW, it's easier to find parts for the Jetta if it breaks, and I love BMW's but the parts for them are killer. Jetta is a little less expensive, but very reliable and nicely made.

I seen your budget, I got a 98' Jetta GLS with heated seats, sunroof, the works, for 4,000, if you look around you might be able to get the newer body style for around 6 grand, it starts in 99' and after if the newer body style.

Another plus is there are alot of aftermarket parts made for these cars, so you can pimp it out if you like

6 grand, are you looking for reliability or performance. You could pick up a nice 97-98 GTP for that price possibly.

Keep in mind he's in Australia...

For one, that means Australian money, for two, that means whatever cars are on the Australian market...I'm not sure what they have/don't have over there that we have/don't have in the US.

94-99 Toyota Celica. Try to find one with a 3SGE or 3SGTE motor in it. 3SGE's are usually SS-II/III's and 3SGTE's are in GT-Four models.
