Default Getting a student car around $7000 all together

Well, I will be a highschool senior next year. I am getting the car around christmas. I am looking to by a car around $7000, will work for the next 5-6 years, and can be tuned up. I am thinking of getting a 96-00 civic coup for $6000 and trick it out with a turbo kit, spoiler, and body kits. IDK if that's better or get one of those already tricked out one. If anyone else have a suggestion for me I would gladly take it.

please don't get a civic... please. and CERTAINLY don't get one already built up. that means there's a 95% chance that the owner has raced it damn near every day, and of course has not done any maintenance since he bought the car. (okay, a little exxagurated, but i see it happen a lot more than it should)

You can built a nice, quick VW Corrado for a lot less than $7k. Get a 1990 or so and put the larger supercharger on it. Within $2000 you can have well over 200WHP. My friend just bought one after his Integra GS-R got stolen. (with "LS-R" engine, headers, intake, etc. total of about $8000 just under the hood)

He put about $4000 into it (including buying the car and with maintenance) and it's a whole lot faster than his Integra ever would be. It has a dual intercooler setup, with N20 sprays over both intercoolers, boosts 18PSI. It's pretty damn quick.

That's just one option among many.

My point is, avoid the civics. one of my co-workers went through 3 engines in one year with his hatch.... You'll only have problems.

But, if you INSIST on getting a civic, get a stock one. No matter what the miles are, spend the cash to get all the maintenance done (mainly Timing belt and water pump). Then mod it yourself...

I would suggest staying away from the civic also. I agree with Tobuk that its a waste. I say that 6k for a civic is just too much money anyway but thats me. Please listen to Tobuk on what he said about civics.
