Default 2000 Dakota surges

My 2000 Dakota has been surging especially when the cruise is on. I didn't see any cracked vacuum hoses. It's been tuned up, but it's probably been a couple of years ago.

Does anyone have any ideas???

I should have know to put that info in....it is a 2000 2wd Dakota Quad Cab with a 3.9 V-6, and a automatic transmission, and it usually happens around 2000 rpm's. It has 117,000, and it runs fine except for the hesitation. They don't have fuel filters do they? Also haven't done anything to it lately, except for oil changes.

The 3.9L requires tune up every 30K with standard resistor plugs. But I suspect it not related. When it surges is it like ounce every 30 seconds or a space inbetween or is it like voom voom voom one right after the next and do you have the plastic intake on her?what is the hesitaion is it surging or hesitating. Surging with cruise on I would have somebody pull up the tsb bulletin's it might just require a more uptodate cpu map, or we could be looking EGR or vacuum leak. Just depends on the type of surging is the MIL on if it is or isn't see if you can get the code scanned Auto Zone will usually do it free. This will help a great deal with me stirring you in the right direction even if it isn't on they may have one pending in the system.

I guess that's more of a hesitation, and it does it once every 3 - 4 minutes. It doesn't have much space just a short hesitation, no vooming or anything like that. It does have the stock plastic intake on it. I put a dist cap and rotor on it this weekend, and cleaned the throttle body really well. I only drove it for about 5 miles after that and it didn't do it, but the true test will be tomorrow.

Thanks for the info, and if it keeps it up I'll try the Auto Zone thing
