Default First car

I don't even have my license yet but I like cars and I like to think about what car to get. I would like a used car with good performance. I also have a pretty big price range.

Here are a few cars I'm looking at would do you guys think.

nissan 350z
mazda rx8
mazda speed 3
mitsubishi evo 8

Don't get an RX8 ... burns gas like a mother, unreliable engine in the long run (apex seals on a rotary? puhleez!)

My pick would be the 350z if you only care about yourself (screw friends, one passenger only) ... or the evo 8 if you like a car that blends in a bit more, but goes like hell when you get on the throttle. The evo 8 has a really high performance engine though, lots of maintenance you'll have to do.

Out of the 4, I'd go for the 350z .. 300 horsepower out of a v6 with a 6 speed tranny = good times! I looked at a lot of cars before I bought my truck .. and the two cars I was torn between was the 350z/G35 coupe and the S2000 .. look into the G35 coupe .. its just as fast and 2 more seats in the back (and more plush in the interior .. 350z feels a bit cheap .. lots of plastic).

I dont personally condone any fast car as a first car. Anything over 200HP.

X2

Your best bet is perhaps a 240SX or even, as much as I dislike them, a newer model Civic Si, maybe even a WRX if you just have to have a little more power, at least you get a lot of safety out of the car.

For a first car, you are listing a lot of pricey options (for someone under 20 years old I assume), where are you getting the money for this or is your family well off?

Also dont forget if this is your first car and first time driviing your probably going to ding it up a lot and might even be in some fender benders. The faster the car, the more the insurance and repair prices.

I wouldn't recommend any of those for your first car. Insurance on any of them is going to be very expensive, as is maintenance if something were to break.

Try to pick a car based off of reliability and practicality rather than performance.
A fast vehicle is a very thrilling thing, but a civic is a better choice for a new driver as they are generally very forgiving, easy on gas/insurance, and are very low profile. The last thing you want as a new driver is police following you around.

It's just like people new to motorcycles wanting a liter bike right off the bat. With a big bike, an accidental bump with a 1/4 turn of the throttle can get you into major trouble very fast.

Picking my jeep over a faster vehicle may have been one of the hardest decisions I have made in the last few years. I had to do it because I knew I would get myself into trouble a lot with something faster. (Oh, and my insurance is only $50 a month with no accidents so far at 19) Just something to consider.
