Default First car/ advice needed.

Well I'm looking for a 02 black wrx but It's hard to find one with just the right price.

This is pretty cheap but the miles are pretty high.
http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/1005654408.html

Miles are good but it's a lot more.
http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/1011329994.html

Everyone says i wouldn't buy a car with over 100k miles but is it really that bad?
It would save me plenty of money or would it be better to spend the extra 3k?
Or wait till i find a cheaper one.

I need a car bad and this is the car i want but it's just hard to find one with good miles, price and everything. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ty.

How well it was maintained matters just as much if not more than total miles on the car...it sounds like it was well maintained, but then again, sometimes at such high milage, the engine/transmission is due for an overhaul - especially if the car has been driven agressively. If you decide to look into it, definitely take it for a drive and listen for strange noises from the engine and transmission, and pay close attention to how well it shifts, etc.

EDIT: lol, I reread the link...since its manual, no need to worry about the transmission, especially since he had the clutch replaced. But make sure the engine isn't close to trouble...if he doesn't mind you pawing through the engine, check for signs of oil leaking/burning, check the PCV for excessive blowby, etc.

Subdub, when buying a used car it helps tons if you can have the car inspected prior to deciding to buy it.

My previous car was bought used. Before I made the decision to buy it I took a family friend who is also a mechanic who owns and runs his own shop with me for his opinions. I also tested the car before making any decisions.

I think an unhealthy car is easy to spot when you drive it. A car that's on its way to breaking down is a little harder to spot, but if you can get the service history (a good owner always keeps his maintenance/service receipts ) on the car and track its trips to the shop that way (with an eye out for major service chronology, like major parts replacements - like clutch/transmission, engine work, etc.) you'll have a better picture of the car's state of health.

In the USA, a service like CarFax is also usually very helpful. This way you can find out if the car has ever been in an accident or has ever been reported as being damaged in a severe weather condition (flooding, especially).

In my opinion, good, determined research habits are your biggest allies in buying a car.

Hope this helps.

Early model year WRX's at 100k+ are pretty common, and can go farther with proper maintenance. Make sure to check out all of the previous records for the car and have it checked out thoroughly by a mechanic. Try to get one that has been unmodded too, as a car with mods was probably modded to be driven hard.

The 02 WRX's are notorious for broken transmissions due to improper launches and mistreatment (shock load). SOA upgraded the 03's transmission's gearing a little, and every year thereafter is a little stronger, if I am not mistaken. It's going to be pretty difficult to tell if the transmission is damaged if the car is in good condition (Not beat on), but have some money set aside for a tranny swap or PPG gears if you really are set on the 02.

I'm not trying to discourage you from buying the car, but these are very important things to know.

Check out www.nasioc.com for a forum with a ton of knowledge and lots of great tips. Make sure to read up and learn lots.

Here's a great car buying FAQ on nasioc.

Oh yeah, and no blow off valves! Really, it leads to problems. It's been discussed at length many, many times and they're just not worth it.
