Default Driver door not working in 87 ford taurus gl

I have an 87 ford Taurus gl with manual doors and windows but power mirrors. A year ago about this time the mirrors would not move. We checked the fuses and all the transistors. What is also funny is that it has a light on the door and even that will not go on. If its confusing its this. the driver side door does not work!!!

Electrical problems are SUCH a pain in the butt. You need someone with a little electrical experience and a continuity checker to track the problem down. My guess is that you have a ground somewhere on the door that is either rusted out or the ground strap tore.

It's not uncommon for the harness wires to break in the area of the door hinge with years of opening & closing the door.

You might be able to pull the rubber boot back and check for power at the wires.

If you find a broken wire, don't try to simply solder or crimp a connector on it, it will break even easier. You need to splice a new wire in from inside the door, to inside the kick panel. Any repair that stiffens the bending section of the harness at the hinge will break for sure.

Yes, you must Fix Or Repair Daily, or else it will be Found On Road Dead.

You might also want to check to make sure the rubber boot that protects the wires is serving it's purpose, and there's no sharp/abrasive edges of the door panel that are hacking away at your wires - otherwise you'll be fixing them every other week. (Though, at least it would put it on the usual Ford repair timetable. lol)
