Default Ford Contour "Vacuum" Part?

I have a friend getting a new car soon and he said he's going to take his current to the junkyard. It's a 1998 Ford Contour. He stated that a mechanic told him something about a Vacuum part being broken and it costing 2,000 dollars to replace.

I googled but didn't find anything. What could be the issue? If the mechanic was just trying to suck money out of him I might take the car off his hands for a few hundred bucks and see what happens. It's only got 90,000 miles on it.

A $2,000 vacuum part sounds a bit fishy, but then again, I know next to nothing about Contours.

Any way you could get the actual quote with part numbers, etc from your friend from the mechanic?

4cl or 6? the only think I could think that could be that expensive is either a lower intake on a V6 or the actual manifold on a 4cl. Actualy to hit that price i would suspect you would have to replace the manifold either way

The car is a 6cyl. I don't want to bother my friend about it because he would have to bother his dad.

Let's forget about the price tag, maybe they were trying to rip him off. Is there any "vacuum" part at all?

An engine needs vacuum to run... Your brakes operate off of vacuum

Which part are you looking for?
