Default First car...have some questions.

The car is a 1996 Toyota Camry LE 4 Cylinder. She's got 148,000 miles but the exterior is rust free and the interior is pretty good (with a good detailing job). The car drives perfect and is in overall pretty fantastic condition. I got it for 750 bucks. I do have some questions though..

1) The exhaust system seems to be rattling. There's no hole, I know what that sounds like. It just sounds like metal is hitting metal, and it sounds like it's coming right from underneath the engine. Is this just a bracket not holding the pipes up? The noise is made when you accelerate or brake harder.

2) The AC system is shot. I'm not sure if it's a leak or a compressor. He said it worked last summer but didn't this summer. Is it more likely to be a leak or the compressor went out? Is it even worth putting freon in?

3) The wood grain on the inside seems to be sun damaged. I don't think it's actually wood, it feels like plastic. (Might be wood covered with laminate, though). The spots are yellow and are basically all over the place. It doesn't look terrible, but I'd like it gone. What do I use to cover it? Would any normal indoor wood stain do the job?

4) Carpet has coffee spilled on it. What do I use to clean it out?

5) How do I pop the dash around the radio out? It has a CD changer put into the slot that is usually a storage. That's great, except it's broken. I'd rather have the storage slot back but I don't know how to pop the plastic off around it. There's gotta be a screw somewhere, right?

6) I washed the car today with dish detergent (the clear coat is gone anyway), cloth, and water. After I was done, however, I ran my finger over and it seems like a coat of dust is left on there covering a shiny black coat. Does it just need some turtlewax?

That's it for now...thanks for any help.

1. Could be an exhaust leak.

2. I would first try puttting in the correct amount/type of freon in and see what happens. How do you know its "shot"?
Please follow the rules, you may find them *HERE*

Your noise is likely a loose/broken/ or missing bracket. Also check for loose heat shields.

With the exhaust cold, hit the exhaust with the palm of your hand and you will find the rattle.

Older A/C systems leak over time and topping them up will often work, but you need to have the system checked for leaks after it's been topped up.

To get stains out of carpet, get some foaming carpet cleaner, works great.

Sounds like it needs a good waxing.
