![]() I'm hoping/planning to get a 3.8L Genesis Coupe when I get back from BT this fall...I stopped by a dealership to look at a couple...such a sexy car. My one complaint is that I can't get the Track Edition (stiffer suspension, more aggressive exterior, Brembo brakes, etc) with the Grand Touring interior (reddish-brown leather on a black interior, instead of a straight black, as with the Track).
For 30k brand new, with a 10-year warranty, it's hard to say no.

![]() Get the turbo model! Its much more upgradeable. A tune and cat back exhaust will make almost 300 at the wheels. Which is much more than the 3.8 v6. Plus it will sound better, and be better on gas.

![]() The 3.8 is rated at 306hp, the 2.0T is rated at 210. Will a tune and catback really make up the difference? I mean, a tune and catback combined net what, an extra 50hp? And the 3.8 has an additional 90hp, plus whatever the tune and catback would add.
I'm not saying you're wrong, you know a lot more than I do, I'm just not sure why the 2.0T would be faster. The sound and gas are good points, though.

![]() Its a turbo car. So from factory they are tuned way down, and run dog rich. You will gain roughly 60-80whp from a good tune and exhaust. Add a manual boost controller and expect much more. Thats what the Evo X guys are seeing. And guess what, its the exact same engine.
Then, if you wish to have more power in the future, the evo motor is a great platform, and already has alot of aftermarket support. Where as the v6 does not. Having a turbo already on the car is a huge plus. Trust me. All im saying is that overall the turbo model would be a better choice, especially if planning to add more power. On an NA motor theres not much you can do without completely ripping the engine apart and paying big bucks for custom parts. And another point to consider is weight. The turbo model will weigh a little less that the big v6, so the car will have a better weight balance which means slightly better handling and breaking. Read this thread. AMS is the number one tuner manufacturer for Evo's. The have set world records, and continue to do so. And they are making great progress with the new evo X's. And since the genesis uses the same engine (Turbo model) all the same mods apply ![]() NOTE: dyno shows WHEEL hp, not crank hp. " 210hp from factory" is about 160whp. 310 hp from factory is about 240 whp. Manufacturers never advertise whp because its a lower number than crank hp. http://forums.evolutionm.net/automot...pump-test.html

![]() I agree with pbasil about getting the 2.0T model over the 3.8. With a few mods it will be at the same level as the 3.8, and if you want to take it higher you can without a ton of money involved. 400whp shouldn't be unreasonable to ask of this particular engine.
![]() If I were looking to purchase one I would definitely wait for the Spec R 2.0T model this summer, which has the brembo brakes, limited slip, and the sport suspension. Quote:
I considered purchasing one for myself, and as much as I like the new genesis coupe, I realised that I could buy a used STI or a new WRX for about the same price and be much happier with the AWD system in winter.

![]() Ah, ok, I get it now - that makes sense. And I won't be purchasing until after I get back from BT (I leave in October) so yeah, the Spec R 2.0T should be out by then. So the extra 6k I didn't spend on the 3.8 could definitely get me up on par with the 3.8, if not above it.
Thanks for the advice! EDIT: Only thing is, I was sorta hoping to keep my warranty intact for a little while...I'm guessing the tune+exhaust will entirely void the engine/transmission warranty?

With the extra money I would probably build up the motor for a high power DD/weekend warrior, but that's just me...

![]() With 6k under the hood, the 2.0T would be near 400whp, which is almost double what the v6 puts out.

![]() Yeah, that's true...I definitely do agree the 2.0T is a better buy, I'm just hoping to keep the warranty for a couple years. Is there much I can do as far as tuning that they wouldn't notice?
Also, how would insurance be for the 2.0T compared to the 3.8 do you think?

![]() Nice car, especially since it has the evo engine and all.
A guy on a local forum I frequent a lot bought one and he said the fit and finish is pretty impeccable, and the quality of the materials used is pretty high. ... save 6 grand you say? I think that's enough for a matte black paintjob =\ ![]() sex.
