Default How good can a cheap car clean up

Not posted for a while but thought this might be of interest. Some months ago I was looking out for a cheap little car for my 17 year old son as a first car. A neighbour had this sad looking little 1994 Vauxhall Corsa for the previous 10 years and was going to part ex it against another car. Red paint faded so badly at first glance it looked white. But it's solid as a rock,no rust at all, 1.2 engine smooth and quiet, gearbox etc spot on. Has been well looked after mechanically but neglected in the TLC department although the interior is mint, never been smoked in etc. Part ex offer was 100 so I asked can I have it for same 100. OK she said.

So I brought it home and off we went with Mr Porter cable

Faded paintwork and faded grey bumpers and trim. Wheel have seen better days too.

So out comes all the gear and after a few hours hard graft and some cheap vauxhall alloys purchased off ebay its not a bad little motor at all. Very pleased of the end result. Just shows what a bit of hard work can produce.

Here are some before and after pics. Cheers Steve.

Very very nice looking car. I'm sure your son will be happy with it. Hell, I would be!

Can we have some interior and under the hood shots?

How many miles on the engine?

You sure that's the same car as the one you started with?

If it is the same car, then it looks like you did a really good job of cleaning it up. The paint looks brand new!

So..uh..you got some special insider secrets or something for restoring paint/trim?

I went out and bought a random orbital polisher and a few different polish/rubbing compounds for my jeep, but with all my effort to clean it up it doesn't seem to have a noticeable effect on the paint regardless of which technique I use.

Thanks for the positive comments

No special cleaning tips. I just used Tcut with my Porter Cable (gently with a nice slow speed) to remove the oxidation and then a further more gentle clean with Zymol cleaner wax and finally a good polish with Meguiars Gold Class carnuba polish.
The car has done 90K miles. No Engine pics but this is the interior.
Cheers Steve.
PS( the pink edged floor mats have gone.LOL)
