Default mistusbishi eclipse reliability ?

This car is absolutely beautiful, but after reading some '06 customer reviews, the reliability factor makes me more hesitant.

What are your personal experiences?

1st Gen - early 1990's, great car, and believe it or not, many people feel it had the most potential of all the eclipses.

2nd Gen - best looking of any of the eclipses, very good potential with the turbo motor

3rd Gen - yuck, dinky car devoid of power, with those hideous 'testarossa' door flairs.

4th (current) gen - big pig of a car in comparison with earlier generations, they added decent power but that can't make up for the weight of the car.

regardless of what they do from this point, the eclipse is basically screwed. the Lancer Evo is the bread and butter performance car, which has left the eclipse in some limbo status between trying to be a performance car, which it is not, and trying to be some touring sports car, which it is also unable to effectively pull off. So what they have is an overpriced hideous heavy car that really doesn't appeal to very many people at all. That is an unfortunate path considering how wonderful they were in the 1990's.

I LOVE the 95-97 look for the Eclipse's...the newest ones (basically anything I've seen 05 and up) I just think is horrid...

The new eclipses are...crap. My friend has an 07 that has given him nothing but trouble. It's got a lot of power but he ran into countless electrical and driveaxle problems.

It has nothing to do with Camaros, I liked all the pre 2000 Eclipses. The most recent Eclipse is a hideous beast with a huge behind.

if the maintenance is done and done right on these they are good cars. what year? if its a 2000+ you really dont need to worry about that..

I agree with you on the 1gs. I had an eagle talon tsi, which is the same car as the eclipse, that lasted a long time and just died on me last week. Unfortunately, the timing belt went while I was driving.

You are right, the eclipse will never be the same. It did have a lot of potential back in the day.
