Default Chrysler's V6 Engines

As most of you may know, Ford now has the EcoBoost V6, a 3.5 liter twin turbo engine with 365 hp/250 torque, along with 25 mpg in the fairly heavy AWD Taurus SHO, a car that runs 13.9 in the quartermile.

GM on the other hand has a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 with 305 hp/273 torque, that gets an impressive 29 mpg all while pushing the Camaro to a 14 flat quartermile.

Then you have Chrysler's miserable collection of V6 engines. The 235-hp 3.5-liter V6 available in many midsize vehicles is just anemic at best. The performance? 15.5 in the quarter mile in the midsize sedans. So the performance stinks, then the gas mileage makes up for it right? Wrong: 25MPG isn't anything special whatsoever.

I understand that Daimler nearly sunk Chrysler with poor decisions and what not, but is there any V6 on the horizon that in any way can compete with what Ford and Chevy are doing with their 6 cylinders? Or on a larger scale, what Japan is sending over in their base commuter cars. Look at the Camry, low 14's in the quarter and 28 mpg. How about the Maxima? 290 hp, 14.4 in the quarter, not bad at all, and while you do only get 25 mpg out of the car, the trade off is very good performance for what basically amounts to a commuter car.

One other thing, although this is another topic but who cares, Dodge needs to quit slapping the R/T tag on these vehicles, that is disgraceful to Mopar heritage... but that's been said so often and obviously no one is listening to that, considering that Yahoo motors is now showing an Avenger R/T with a 4 cylinder.

I may be a bit of a Japanese car fan boy, but I think the American auto industry needs a complete overhaul. Performance cars are not performing and economy class vehicles are either not up to par with foreign, or they are of terrible build quality. It's sad that a country with so much technological potential has fallen so low in the worldwide automotive rankings.

American Trucks are about the only type of vehicle I can think of that is still worth buying.

Actually Ford and Jaguar just topped one of the big name quality survey rankings, and the Camaro and Mustang are cleaning house on the performance side of things. Chevy has more vehicles that get 30+ MPG than Toyota. The only company, sad to say, that has dropped that far below the Japanese brands is Dodge. And I'm a big Mopar guy.

I thought Jaguar was owned by Tata, the Indian company.

Car brands: Who owns what?

2011-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee The auto industry is very complicated these days, with constant change across all corners of the globe. The worldwide economic slowdown dictates widespread cost reductions, inspiring partnerships and changes in ownership. Further confusing the scene are past commitments between companies: For example, the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is based on a Mercedes-Benz platform–even though Chrysler and Mercedes are no longer joined at the hip.

To help clear up some of the confusion, here is a road map to navigate who owns what brands among the major companies that sell in the U.S. car market.

BMW owns: BMW, Mini, and Rolls Royce

Fiat owns: Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati; Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep–20-percent stake

Ford Motor Company owns: Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo (for now), and still owns 13.4 percent of Mazda

General Motors owns: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC. Also owns a controlling interest in Daewoo, as well as Opel and Vauxhall in Europe and Holden in Australia. (Pontiac to be discontinued)

Honda owns: Honda, Acura

Hyundai owns: Hyundai, Kia

Tata Motors (India) owns: Jaguar and Land Rover

Mazda (partially owned by Ford)

Mitsubishi

Daimler AG owns: Mercedes-Benz and Smart

Nissan owns: Nissan and Infiniti (Nissan is owned by Renault--France)

Porsche owns: Porsche and a majority share in Volkswagen

Subaru (A controlling interest of Subaru is owned by Toyota)

Suzuki

Toyota Motor Company owns: Lexus, Toyota, Scion, Daihatsu and Hino Motors, with a stake in Fuji Industries (Subaru’s parent company) and Isuzu

Volkswagen owns: Audi, Volkswagen, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and overseas SEAT and Skoda.

In formal negotiations to be sold:
Hummer: Tengzhong (China)
Saturn: Penske Automotive Group
Saab: Koenigsegg (Sweden)

Yeah it is. Hopefully GM will give the plans to Chevy and they can continue the epic tale of the G8. That way they have a ridiculous family sedan, the Camaro, and then the Corvette. 'Cause it goes from the SS Impala/Monte Carlo then to the Camaro. Unless they made the Monte a RWD car, there's a hole where there should be a badass family sedan. Which the G8 fits perfectly.

I just looked up the G8... 414 hp from their top end model? HOLY CRAP.. I want one!!! And to chrysler's engine: The motor from the Dodge SRT-4 was nice! but that is only a 4banger.
