Default How Many Miles to the Gallon Do You Get?

I recently tanked a full tank and did 19.7mpg on my 4 cylinder 96 Camry. That's pretty awful for a 4 cylinder car, but the timing belt is brand new (not broken in yet) and my spark plugs are more than 80,000 miles old, with original wireset. Plus that was all City driving. Still, I'd like to do a bit more.

So, how much do you get? (Specify engine size, car model and make, etc.)

Well that's depressing. Your 4.3L gets the same mpg as my Camry.

Depending on where I'm going to, on base daily driving I get about 19-22 on my V6(17 gallon tank). If I were to drive cross-country again I'd get about 450 miles out of a full tank.

The fuel economy I get depends on the way I'm driving at the time. If I drive with a heavy foot I get maybe 8 mpg city.

I have gone through $20 worth of gas in an hour's worth of in town, 40mph max driving back and forth around town. At one point I was sure there was a leak in my gas tank because I had gone through nearly $100 in gas in two days.

If I accelerate so slowly that I'm being passed by grannies I get 15-16 mpg city. The one time I did that was immediately after I had done a tune up and gas was at $4.26 a gallon, so I figured I'd conserve a bit.

Of course, this is to be expected when owning a 4000lb 4X4 Suv.

On the plus side I can easily get 23 mpg Highway at 70 mph. This jeep is definitely a highway cruiser, although it doesn't like hills much...

You can't calculate MPG like that. In most cars, the fuel needle stays on top for much longer than it does on the bottom...meaning once you get past 1/2 it drops like a rock.

You have to tank a full tank, zero the trip meter, drive a little, then tank it to full again. Divide the miles on the trip meter with how many gallons you tanked.

With the way you're calculating, my Camry would be getting 32mpg...which is off by a LOT. (From the 19.7mpg actual.)
