Default 2011 Volvo S60 Concept Car

Quote:
More than just a pretty face, the S60 concept also previews Volvo’s turbocharged, gasoline-direct-injection technology, which it calls GTDi; the tech will first be introduced on a production vehicle later next year, the company says. Displacing 1.6 liters, the turbocharged inline four-cylinder churns out 180 hp and employs stratified combustion, whereby an optimal air-fuel mix is positioned close to the sparkplug, allowing the engine to perform without using any more fuel than is necessary. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox, and also is capable of momentarily shutting off when the vehicle comes to a stop. Additionally, it can operate in a fuel-economy-conscious state called DRIVEe-Mode. This feature reduces fuel consumption via an economy mode that limits the function of select electrical and mechanical systems.

Volvo has given the S60 Concept an engine that will later make its debut in the production car. The 1.6-liter, high-efficiency GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine produces 180 hp and is aided by a system called Powershift, essentially a DSG twin-clutch transmission. Volvo equipped the new engine with Start/Stop technology; electric power assisted steering; ‘DRIVe-Mode’ which limits the number of electrical and mechanical units being run for added fuel savings and last, but not least, a grille shutter that acts as a wind-deflecting panel to reduce drag when there is less need for cooling air. All of these features combined should add up to a combined EPA rating of 47mpg while keeping CO2 emissions under 120g/km.
I can't wait for this...

the base 06-08 (I think) PT cruisers got 180hp turbocharged too.. I'd hate to NOT have a turbocharger, it would have like.. 90hp without one.

More realistically 120HP~, and the PT cruisers didn't get 47MPG combined. They got 22-23

Orig PT Cruisers had 150?

Base had 140hp as far as I could recall.
GT (my old cruiser) had 215 at crank 2003
The turbocharged 2.4 L engine was available in 180 hp (134 kW) (turbo Lite) or "High-Output" 230 hp (172 kW) versions (04-06?)

The whole point of this is that it maintains that horsepower while getting close to 50mpg...not how much horsepower a PT cruiser had maintaining a crappy mpg.

180hp with 47mpg is quite ridiculous.
