Default Getting stuff tested for free

I keep reading in posts on forums about "take it to the parts place and have them test the module" or something like that.

Up here only an alternator/starter rebuilder will test your alternator or starter in hopes of making a sale.

Nobody here will scan your car, or test your "anything" for free.

Is their really that many places that test stuff for free?

yes advance/autozone and most napa's have alternator/starter/battery/control module testers and they will also scan your car for free. advance/autozone are supposed to bench test your old starter/alternator before they sell you one..

No Autozone in Canada.

I asked Napa here if they could test an alternator and they just stared at me, like "we sell parts here, not test them"

Would be nice it their was some handy place for DIY'ers

I've taken cars to autozone to have them tested, IDK the stores in CA though. They never charge to read a code.
