Default What are the chances of this?

A good friend of mine recently bought a '68 Mustang. I own a 1985 F150. They keys for the two vehicles would normally be similar, the blank would have been the same part.

The funny bit is that our keys are interchangeable. Yes, you read that right. His key works my ignition, my key works his ignition. He still has his original 1968 ignition tumbler, and I still have my original 1985 one. I can also unlock his passenger door, since that uses the iginiton key. Odd thing is that the driver's door has a tumbler for which none of us have a key...

What are the chances that, over a measly 20 years, Ford would end up re-using a combination on their ignition locks, and that the two vehicles this happened between would end up being owned by two best friends at the same time?

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

1 in 136,000 for ford 1 in 68,000 for chevy. It's more likly both lock cylinders are worn and both keys are worn meaning it allows for the key to be close but slightly off.

Related topic I heard a story on the news a while back about a jogger that had a heart attack on a popular driving trail. He had no ID just a set of keys to a GM well the police tried the cars in the lot and it opened a Tahoe so they called the Next of Ken to the Tahoe told her to meet them at the hospital concerning her husband. When she got there they broke the news and brought her to the back to identify the body it wasn't her husband. It's shocking but it happens the jogger had another Yukon in the same lot and both used the same key. Poor lady

His key is pretty worn, I'll admit. But mine's very crisp. Also, what are the chances the two vehicles will be owned by two best friends at the same time?
