Default buy or build?

Like what are the advantages and disadvantages of people like getting a 500$ car and fixing it up rather than buying a brand new car?

Well for $500 you are probably not going to get a car that is in very good shape. Fixing it up will take a lot of work especially if you want to make it fast. Most old beater cars that you can get for that little money are ugly and slow. In the end if you are willing to put in the time and have the mechanical know-how you can build a pretty nice car this however will still cost you quite a bit of money. Also brand new cars get warranties. So if anything goes wrong or break you just take it in and tell them to fix it.

I like to build my own... its fun, and its something you can call your own.... No one else will have the exact same car... unlike buying a new car. Also, you can build to it be exactly what you want, a track car, show car, big ballin car, drag racer... ect.

for me, I don't like new cars because it is difficult to work on them, compared to older cars. Why would I want to do my own repairs? Well, it saves a lot of money, and you also learn a lot about how your car works, so you know what's good or bad for it. Sure you can get the warranty from the dealer, but when that is due, you are SOL. Also a new car will depreciate like a whore, where a $500 car won't really get any lower, especially if you build it up.

BTW, I am currently in the process of changing the clutch in my $300 VW Jetta. Pain in the ass? Sure, but it is oh-so-satisfying when you are done.

So far I learned that it is easier to pull the engine and tranny together(and work from there), than to try and drop the tranny itself. Took me 8 hours to get the tranny out!

if you build you own. its yours, unique. but say you put a big turbo on you little beater build up and it goes bad geuss what. you have to buy a new one. so theres advantages to a new car with a warrenty.
