Default Possible first F150 upgrade?

While my friend was browsing Craigslist looking for wheels for his Mustangs, and I was watching over his shoulder, we stumbled across an 8.8" ring and pinion, 3.27:1, and the accompanying LSD out of a 2000 Mustang GT. Now, my F150 has an 8.8", so I know right off the bat the gears would bolt in.

The price: 20 bucks for the diff, 10 for the gears.

Ya'll think it would be a worthwhile upgrade assuming the gears aren't thrashed? Mind you, currently I have a 2.49:1 gearset and an open diff.

Of course I'd DIY. It's not like I have problems getting to my axle...

My main concern would be the clutches in the LSD, namely getting a hold of some new ones if I needed to. Shouldn't be too hard, right? Just head down to Carquest and get a diff rebuild kit for a 2000 Mustang GT? And how long do you reckon they'd hold up under there?

Yeah. Should hold up fine, long as you don't drive like a primate. It doesn't sound like you drive that much anyway.

Yeah, not gonna be trying to do burnouts or anything. I might tow the odd lawnmower trailer with it, most that would weigh is 3500 or so. Mainly it's just a driveablilty upgrade, the 2.49 puts my RPM so low on the freeway that it's a 3/4 throttle affair to maintain speed, and the LSD will help a ton in rough/slick conditions. Not to mention towing is a pain in the clutch with it. It's not like the pumpkin I'm after is weak or anything, I've seen 500HP Mustang GTs running through their stock 8.8's without issue and I'm not gonna come close to that much HP or torque on my 8.8.
