Default Lotus Elise for the Weekend **PICS**

I've heard people saying how an Elise is a second car, it's not a daily driver, bla bla blah... Well I rented an Elise for the weekend to see if it was a "practical" car to own. It was BRG w/ the touring package btw. I'm the kind of person who can care less about cup holders, luggage space, reclining seats, etc. I knew this was the car for me before ever sitting in one.

To see if it was everything I imagined I put it through some "tests" that included everyday activities and here are my results:

-It goes over speedbumps fine... the long flat ones anyway.
-I can get in & out of my driveway fine.
-I went shopping and there's room for bags.
-Comfortable driver's seat.
-I can take the soft top on & off quickly.
-My date were very impressed with it, she had no complaints.
-Parking took some getting used to. Parking next to a curb took a few tries and reversing was difficult but do-able.
-Getting in & out of the car isn't that easy if you're a big person, luckily I'm not.
-The A/C gets cold fast due the small cabin space, a plus on hot days.
-Very quiet at idle, but noisy when I'm on the gas. Not necessarily a bad thing cuz it's a beautiful sound.
-Being seen by other drivers is an issue. I almost got nailed by an SUV driver.
-Bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway was not as unbarable as I expected.
-The interior is well organized, I can access all the buttons easily while driving.

Now for the performance tests.

-It picks up quick at low RPMs, not bad for a little 1.8L. I'm pretty sure it's due to the weight of the car but it's still nice to know that I can floor it at pretty much any RPM and the car will speed up fast.
-At WOT it hauls major ass. Very impressive on the freeway for an NA car.
-Brakes are awesome.
-The 2 ->3 gear shift can be tricky. I miss shifted plenty of times.
-Handling was amazing. I didn't push it anywhere near its limits because I was on the streets... and because I didn't want to crash.
-The clutch is a little heavy.

All in all I was very impressed. Sure there are negatives like visability etc but who cares. I can live with that. It's not a car for everybody but it's definitely a car for me. I got in my regular car Monday morning to go to work and laughed my ass off. I'll be picking up an Elise late this year for sure.

They are very nice cars. The acceleration is as you assumed do entirely to the weigh of the car. They weigh 1900lbs without a driver I believe. Good to see that you are getting another performance car. I couldn't imagine going from a RX-7 to a 323. There is a package for the Elise you can get that doubles its horsepower output. Makes it an 11 second car. Costs like $40,000 but who's counting.
