![]() Here's my problem. I found, on craigslist, a 1999 Impreza and the "motor appears to have blown." This is vague, but I'm planning for worst case scenario.
Full listing here. I found a totaled 1996 Impreza with what appears to be a working engine. I don't know the size (hopefully the 2.2L to match the 1999) but I'm wondering if these engines are interchangeable. What I mean is, am I able to basically bolt the 1996 engine into the 1999? Any help is welcome, and I apologize for the lack of detail. |

![]() I believe so. Chances are the engine isn't blown though. Probably just a head gasket.

![]() I don't believe there is oil in the coolant recovery bottle (although I have yet to see it myself). Also, he said he replaced the timing belt, perhaps he screwed up.
Concerning the engine swap... I've been searching the internet for any conclusive data or perhaps someone who's done it, but so far, no luck. I've found that most of the people who do it are enthusiasts, all of which own WRXs. This seems to be a resource to look through. Last edited by mmparkskier; 02-08-2010 at 05:08 PM. |

![]() I'm a Subie guy, so I guess I'll help you along with this one.... As long as the motor from the 96 and 99 are the same size (both 2.2L) it should be a direct swap from one to the other.
There's plenty of enthusiasts that are NA guys... Just have to know where to look! ![]() Mikey |
