Cool Evolution of the Golf!

Here is a site that you can view the evolution of the Volkswagen Golf:

http://www.newgolf.ca/

It is interesting to look at:

1974 - 1984 : MK1 (10 years)
1985 - 1993 : MK2 (8 years)
1993 - 1998 : MK3 (5 years)
1999 - 2005 : MK4 (6 years)
2006 - 2008 : MK5 (2 years)
2009 - present : MK6

Newer models are coming out a lot faster than they ever were before looking at this

Added a poll! You can pick more than one

MK1 and MK4 are my favorite i think. MK2 and MK3 look hideous IMO.

They all have their advantages

I have to say that, basing my choice(s) on looks simply, my decision above would have been very different. However, both MK2 and MK3 have a lot of potential from a modding point of view! I think that a stock one is a look that is hard for some to swallow, but there are a few things that you can do to them that will make them look, "hott" (excuse the loose term).

Thanks for your input though!

I picked the MK6 because if you want a car that's pretty nimble and awesome looking right off the lot you got one, although I've seen the other MK's and they are pretty appealing from a modder perspective like mega said.

They definitively have come a long way

I like putting my 1983 Rabbit beside my parents 2009 Rabbit

What a difference!

Maybe it was a hair different in Canada, but I'd like to correct a few dates. Mk2's were done in 1992, no '93s to my knowledge. The stopped making mk3's halfway through '99. You can find 99's that are either mk4's or mk3's. 2005 was another half year split, and as far as I know all mk6's are 2010's here in the states (so far).

So it would look more like this:

1974-1984 MK1
1985-1992 MK2
1993-1999 MK3
1999-2005 MK4
2005-2009 MK5
2010-20?? MK6

And I would pick MK2's as the best platform, since share many components with later models. They are a slightly more refined MK1, and still look great. I think MK1's are best in the looks department. Anything newer does not match the feel of any of the old generations, but are still great cars.

As far as doors go, I choose 4-door Golfs, and 2-door Jettas.
