![]() Hey guys,
This is just a thought, but ive always wondered. How much would it cost to import a car from Japan. And, on average, how much do used Skyline's cost in Japan (R32/33)? thank you. |

We have a left hand drive S15 silvia in town that was imported from japan, and it cost the guy 15k for all of the fees, taxes, and shipping, plus the cost of the car itself. And he can't legally register it in the us because it doesn't meet the minimum safety regulations. ![]()

![]() Depends... There are ways around certain taxes. I have a co-worker who is going to pick up his brand new BMW M3 at the factory in Germany. He is gonna drive it around Europe for two weeks and then ship it back to the US. He doesn't have to pay an import tax because he is driving it around for the two weeks. It then becomes just a car that get's shipped so it's not a purchase that is shipped and an import tax doesn't apply.

I would totally spent those two weeks in Nurburgring, driving aimlessly around the same famous loop at rather scary speeds....

But basically... If you have the money to consider doing this you probably aren't that worried about it. Skylines are expensive, whether you get them used or not. They are rare cars, not so much in Japan, but in the US. You'd probably be hard pressed to locate a used one in Japan, unless you have contacts or speak Japanese or something like that.

![]() I would assume they are dirt cheap in Japan actually, this isn't because I've seen a cheap one on a Japanese dealer website or anything BUT...I have seen Supra's for sale in the U.S. and Supra's for sale in Japan and the price difference is GIGANTIC. A low mileage Supra here costs about $40k and up, in Japan I was able to find better looking ones with low mileage for less than $10k. So I hope this gives you an idea of what you're looking at.
Importing of course is a different story because its different for every car so it all depends I guess.
