Default 1999 plymouth breeze ignition lock problems

My friend just bought a crappy 1999 plymouth breeze and he called me telling me that he cant start his car (Key won't turn, steering wheel is upside down.) I told him the steps I would take, (Turn the wheel tightly in one direction, start, repeat in the other direction.) and it still didn't work. I found on another forum that you have to rip out your center console and press a shift lock button, but that's hard to do when on the road with no tools. Is there any other things he should try?

When my mom's Dodges jam in like that I free them by violently shaking the wheel left and right while turning the key. I've never had one jam up so badly that won't dislodge it.

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

When my trucks do that i just crank on the wheel a bit and it comes loose.

True that, always works for me. There is an audi at my school autoshop that does that really bad....

Alright he can get it to start if he sprays wd40 in the key slot and tap the keyring with the back of a screw driver. If he replaced his ignition lock would it fix his problem?

yes, 00-04 focii are horrid for this, they re-designed the ignition cyl. and replaced them.

The 1987-1991 Ford Trucks, Broncos and I dont even know what else were like that. There was this small plastic rod that moved when you turned the key and it breaks all the damn time and then you either lose your ACC or you cant turn the ignition at all. That means you have to take your entire steering column apart and put in a new one. My 1989 F-150 is on its third or fourth ignition switch...
