Default Air Bag + Assault rifle = deployed bag?

Ya'll reckon that's even possible? OR do you think someone was off camera with a button and got some really good timing?

Also, do you think a really heavy machine gun, say a dual .50 cal, could set airbags off if you shot the front bumper of a car so equipped?

My rigs:

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Seriously - Mythbusters seems to take any opportunity that comes up to shoot a car with big slugs.

Since the airbag is deployed by a small explosion, if the bullet hits the right stuff, sure it could happen.

Looks like he had a lucky shot.

airbags are deployed by an electrical signal of some sort. How this signal is generated varies, some cars using accelerometers while others use more simple balls in a tube type switches, others use switches that close when the bumper crushes in far enough.

The common thing is an electrical signal. I'm not sure the explosive in an airbag is impact sensitive.

They use a nitrogen-producing propellant that burns very rapidly more than explodes. The goal is, of course, to fill the bag up as fast as possible.

I'm no explosives expert though. Much as I love playing when them I have only a rudimentary idea of how they work, and some basic terminology(Such as high and low explosive).
