Default 240SX parts are insanely expensive?

So, I'm definitely looking into buying the 96' 240SX discussed in another thread...except that the IAC the owner says it needs is $162.99. WTF? It's like $30 for my Regal. I had the guy check the price for the MAF, just to see if it was a fluke - the MAF's $700. (It's $140 for my Regal.) So am I going to pay double the price of the car every time I need to buy a couple parts?

Source your parts independently. Sounds like that guy is trying to scam you.

rockauto.com is a good place to look.

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

The guy just said it needed it. I did source the part independently - Car quest had it for $162. Rock auto has it for $130 or $150 depending on whether its the Atsugi/Unisia Jec or the Tosoku. (Anybody wanna translate?)

The more I look at the 240SX the more I want one, I just don't know if I can afford the parts - it's gonna cost me more than the Regal even if I only have to repair it a fourth as much.

Then Idunno. When I had a 200SX of the same year it ran flawlessly, I never had to replace anything on it.

In other words, you think I'd save money by having to replace less, even if it is more expensive when something does fail?

Look at autopartswarehouse.com, I found you an IAC there for $127 and a MAF for $105 at the cheapest. There wasn't even one there for over $280.

Yeah pretty much. We had to change one O2 sensor, that was pretty cheap(And easy to do), and the original clutch at 160K was gonna be up for change had I not wrecked the thing, that was about it. Absolutely nothing went wrong with it that wouldn't go wrong with any OBD-II vehicle of it's mileage.

I have a guy that specializes in Nissan parts used for his drift cars and I could probably pick you up some on the cheap.

If that's not too much trouble for you that'd be awesome! I'll definitely keep it in mind if something major needs replacing.

Think thats bad... Own a supra!

Welcome to the price gouging of the import market. Any desirable car will have insanely priced parts... Why? Because people will pay to have that awesome car, whatever it may be.

Wheel bearing for my supra, $135/Piece. Wheel bearing for my 94 lumina, $40/pair! Just an example.

If you cant afford to fix/upgrade the car, you may want to seriously consider a cheaper vehicle.
