Default Speed has a new toy!

I just got back from picking up my new toy, a 1993 4x4 Chevy S-10 Blazer. She is in rough shape but I picked her up for a song. With a little elbow grease I hope to have it running like new.

It's loaded with just about everything possible minus an LSD rear end. It even has the Vin code W High Performance 4.3 V6 in it, along with the auto 4L60E

I think I own like what, 6 vehicles now? It may be time for a break from buying cars.

I took a look in my owners manual and found the original window sticker, so it looks like I won't be needing a build sheet after all. I uploaded some pics of it but my blackberry's camera is terrible up close.

I have already ordered a new fuel pressure regulator and intake manifold gasket, and am planning on getting started with rust repair and doing a full detail clean on monday. A trip to pick and pull for a few necessities like a new drivers side door handle and hopefully a digital dash in good shape and everything that needs fixing should be done.

I think I'm going to paint it some shade of either red or black. Black would hide the rust and be easier on the eyes, but a nice shade of red like the new wranglers would look nice if done right.

This blazer has had more money put into new parts in the last year than I paid for it, so I think I got a pretty good deal. Although she does have 250k on the clock...

250k is nothing...if the suspension is in good shape (ball joints, wheel bearings, etc) she's got lots of life in her yet. With that many miles i'm sure the alternator, fuel pump, stuff like that has already been replaced.

The starter, battery, EGR valve, cap/rotor/wires/plugs, and other maintenance items were replaced within a year or two before I bought it.

I plan to relocate the battery to the passenger side above the rear axle, remove all of the AC components and relocate the radiator in the forward position, along with swapping in my trusty Ford Taurus E-fan sometime in the coming months. I am also on the lookout for a ZQ8 steering box and sway bars.

On a side note, I just bought an uncut engine harness from an 03 S-10 4.3 and an LS ECM. Can anyone guess what my plans are?

Turning it into an Xtreme are we?

But i would've hoped you would drop a 350 or 5.3L in it.

I'll do one better, how about an iron 6.0 and a 150 shot?

I had intended to find a regular cab, short bed, 2wd 94-00 S10 to do the swap with, but for the price I paid I couldn't pass this blazer up. If I find an S10 truck that fits what I'm looking for I will swap an LQ4 into that instead and use the blazer as a trail rig, but for now it looks like I am getting this sleeper ready for an overhaul.

Honestly, if you saw this blazer pull up next to you at a light you would never knew it had a souped up V8 - And that's what I love about it.
