Default What Do you Pay For Insurance?

So, just curious, what do you guys pay for your insurance?

I won't be in the market for purchasing a 350Z until spring of 2011. I just started looking online for insurance quotes and I have not particularly been happy with what I've seen so far.

I am 22 years old with not a single ticket or accident and under my grandparents insurance. My 2008 Sentra 2.0 with full coverage costs me roughly $700 every 6 months ((or $116 a month)).
I recently got a quote from Progressive, stating that if I was to insure my Sentra on my own, it would cost me $183/month and for a 2009 350Z it would be about $411 a month.

$411 will easily be a deal breaker for me. There is no way that I can afford $5000 for insurance ALONE per year.

Is Progressive just not the right company, or am I really out of luck? I've read up on some other forums and there were a few guys, who were also under 25, somehow having insurance payments that were cheaper than what it would cost me to insure my Sentra.

What am I doing wrong?

It's the vehicle choice most likely. To insure me on my F150, liability only since it's only worth ~500 bucks or so, is only 40 or 50 bucks a month on my parent's insurance. When I go out on my own I'll get the bare minimum of full coverage so I can get roadside, and that will go up to about 115-120 a month when I'm on my own. If I spec out insurance for one of my desired cars, a Caterham, it's well over 600 a month if they'll even give me a quote. Half the companies don't even know what those things are.

On a somewhat unrelated note, nobody will allow me to buy just roadside and liability. I HAVE to get full coverage in order to get roadside.

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.

I've got liability on the Blazer and it's around $70/mo. It was 40 before i had an accident with the Silvy (which i'm still fighting to clear my name on).

Silverado is a different story, one of my contracts needs a million dollar policy. That one is a good bit steep.

The GTO and liberty are together with full coverage for a ridiculous amount like 100/150/100 only cost us 140 a month for both. But were in our early 30's married, and get a Teacher discount. Had to get a serious policy because in Vegas it's not uncommon to be surrounded by 100K-500K cars at a stop light so accident claims tend to be really pricey.

When I was 20 I had a 1996 Cadillac Deville year 2000 insurance for the cheapest full coverage I could get for the loan provider was 504 a month the car note was only 498. I was spending a grand a month just to get laid easier so needless to say I got rid of that one real quick. Plus still got laid easy in the beater 1980 GMC 2500 I replaced it with go figure.

At 18 I had a 1992 WS6 full coverage with progressive was around 250 a month but it was a much older car.

My 06 GTO and 99 Cherokee I pay about $150 a month. Last year before I turned 21 I was paying $200 a month JUST for my 99 Grand Prix GT. Turning 21 had so many benefits... Lol.

My 240sx is only $180 per month, I'm 20 on my own policy with minimum coverage. And I have 5 tickets (though I got 3 deferred, so I THINK the insurance only knows about 2 of them).

$265 a month. Full coverage. 22 w/ my own policy. $488 a month note.

Pretty sure that's with 0 tickets on my record. Probably gotten around 5-6. Knowing the sheriff is a good thing! Can get pretty much anything off the record, some things I still have to end up paying the fine on though.
