Default Geo Prizm

Well this isn't anything specific about the car, but I thought I'd share my thoughts on it just for everyone's info, especially those who don't have a lot to spend on a car.

Basically what I want to share is...that as much as I hate to say it, but the Geo Prizm is an extremely reliable beater car. My dad borrowed his friend's Prizm and he absolutely hates it and says it shouldn't be considered a car. However, given the mileage this car has, and how well its running at the moment, you can assume that it is very reliable. Right now the odometer shows 195k miles, and as far as I know the car has only had basic maintenance done to it. Sure the roof liner is drooping, and the cassette player rattles a little, but other than that for the $600 this car was bought for, it is still running as strong as the day it came off the lot. Heat, works, A/C works, nothing is squaling, nothing is misfiring, and everything is working as it should. So I have to say I'm impressed that this car is still alive and kicking. I'm not sure of the specs of this car, all I know is that it is FWD, 4 speed automatic, and has either anything between a 1.6L-2.4L inline 4 engine, with probably somewhere around 100 horsepower give or take 20.

So for whoever doesn't have a lot of money to spend (less than $1000) and is looking for a reliable beater car, I would definitely recommend one of these. Now keep in mind I've only had experience with one, and like people no two cars are identical in terms of reliability. I hope this post was useful to some, given that the current economy is horrible, maybe someone might make something of this. I know its a Geo and they are usually frowned upon, but definitely worth looking at when on a low budget.

Enjoy.

The Prizm is actually a Toyota Corolla with the 1.6L or 1.8L. A friend of mine tried to kill one for a year and a half and it just kept going after 260,000 miles, but his wife wouldn't let him buy a new car till it exploded. He ended up moving away and as far as i know it may still be going.

That's the metro, this one has a 4 cyl, I'm 100% sure of this. Just not so sure on the displacement haha. As James May says, its a plucky little car .

And lautinjr, thats pretty impressive, just goes to show you sometimes get a lot more than you expect.
