Default Best car to drive in Dubai

My fellow drivers,

My new job will take me and my wife to Dubai this summer. I've talked to several guys who had spent their time down there about what car I should drive. Many suggested Toyota Land Cruiser is the one for (1) their performance, and (2) the availability of their parts.

I'd like to ask you folks 2 questions. First, what is the difference between Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser besides the size of the engines. Do they share many parts between them? Are their engine cooling system prectically identical, or one is more sensitive to the high OAT than the other?

My second question is, besides Land Cruiser, what car do you think would be suitable for an outdoorzy couple with no kid in Middle East who plans to drive to Oman for diving/fishing/desert camping (after the revolution is over, of course)?

Thanks in advance, guys. Safe drive, please.

Toyota FJ Cruiser. For serious too. The more and more I see them, the more and more I adorn them.

I remember reading an offroading pamphlet at a dealership when I was car shopping last year. They did a test on the Hummer H1, Jeep Rubicon, Toyota FJ Cruiser, and the Land Rover somethingoftheother. The Land Rover came in(obviously) dead last, then the Rubicon, then the FJ, then the H1(obviously).

It was a 50 point system with the H1 getting 50 points. What it lacked in gas mileage(I think 8mpg on a good day?) it sure as hell made up for in offroading capability. The FJ had 49, only reason was because of those stupid suicide-style rear doors. Rubicon at 46 because of the wheelbase with the crappy engine Chrysler decided to produce instead of continuing the AMC 4.0L. Then the Landrover was around 25 points because, although it claimed to be "their most capable offroad vehicle yet," it's a luxury vehicle and not an offroad machine.
You can't compare German cars to Japanese cars. That's like comparing apples to herpes.
Cheap. Reliable. Fast. In the car world, you can only choose two of those.
