Hey OP, I just bought the exact same van for this years burn! Same issue, I cut the coax and after everything is reassembled I have no gauge or climate lighting...
I've checked the fuses but the wiring is unclear to me. The diagrams I've found don't indicate a power supply aside from that found on the fuse block -- which is intact. As far as i can tell we probably disconnected something, while the dimmer is apparent, it is unlikely that it is the culprit as we were both, no doubt, rewiring the stereo or swapping speaker in the dash (Pain in the ass) If you want to swap wiring colors/experience please PM me. I leave for the playa on the 25th and this is NOT how I hoped to spend the next few days. |

Okay, so it's NOT the dimmer switch. Noticed that in addition to the gauge/climate lights, I also didn't have taillights/running lights. Switched the fuse, blew the fuse.
Disconnected the radio, gauge lights and taillights work fine. Why is the radio connected to the same circuit as the taillights? I'm running the yellow w/gray (as 12+ switched) and orange (12+ constant) cables from the Vandura to the stereo wiring harness. They are the only 12+ and 12+ switched I could find. In the name of simplicity can I can run a separate 12+ (switched) from the main battery (w/fuse) and toggle switch to the stereo? Bypass the taillight circuit entirely? I know it's not ideal but time is of the essence and I can properly fix diagnose and repair the issue after the trip is completed. Any takers? I feel like I found something significant but can't make the necessary mental connection. would the bypass work? Last edited by Jericho; 08-14-2012 at 04:44 AM. |

Usually the powered wire connections at the radio are constant power, used to keep radio memory, switched power to only allow the radio to work in the ignition and accessory positions. The steady power was on the same circuit as the lighter. You may also have a dimmable power supply when the lights are on, this is the feed from the dimmer switch to the radio display, not many radios/decks use this feature any more.
