Lightbulb Best FUN track day car for under 2000

Hi everyone, we and a friend a looking at splitting the cost for a car we can just take round the track and are wondering whats a good car to buy?

Looking on autotrader at mr2's (most look like rustbuckets though) , and a supra has also caught our eye. Maybe an mx5? Looks light and nippy.

Need suggestions please!

anything for that price? You'll be lucky if it makes it TO the track.

What are you on about?

Miata.

That's about $3 grand in USD. That should buy you a perfectly good Miata.

Or an older 3 series.

Ha.. I'm not going for the fastest and most expensive sports car in the world to beat everyone with, obviously. Loads of people spend <1000 on track day cars according to all these sites I've been reading

Got to agree with Mike here. The miata is the best bang for the buck on a track. Though if your over seas, a smaller BMW 3 series has gobs of potential. Snag an old e30 318 or something and gut it then throw in some used coilovers from an m3 which im sure you can find on forums for cheap, and youll have cheap car that handles on rails, and has tons of potential for future mods.

pretty much what I was thinking 2K on car, coil overs, brakes, light weight wheels, and good rubber could be done for that price. With some weight reduction you would be surprised how well it would do.

Top gear does a great episode on this -- Season 18, episode 7. I think their budget is a little more, but the same idea.

100k miles is nothing for a Miata, they're very long lasting cars. What's more, sounds like you're not going to be DDing it, so no need to worry too much about it. Buy it, do a few upgrades to it, and hoon the snot out of it! That's what Miatas are the best for!
