Default Looking for my first car! 06-07 Honda civic si interested!

Hey guys
I'm a college student in TX. I'm looking for a used car that's fun to drive and affordable and reliable. I'm especially interested in 06-07 Honda civic si. However, I've heard the transmission issue of the car in 06-08. I mean I can easily find one on craistlist for about $10000 in good condition. But is this car a good car to own? I don't know how severe the transmission problem is. And if I buy a used one and I have this specific issue on it, is it still eligible to be fixed free of charge from a Honda dealership??? And besides the transmission problem, is this car reliable and affordable to maintain? I hate to spend a lot on a car after buying it. I would definitely cherish it, though. And overall, would you guys recommend this car? ?
It would be perfect if you have owned this specific car for some time but and reply will be appreciated!!

I looked at a couple of those not too long ago really. The transmission issue is fairly uncommon, you'll find a lot of information on it on the 8thCivic forums: 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum. You're not likely to find too many experts on these cars and I don't think there will be too many people besides me recommending this car, so I would head over to 8thCivic for more information. It's a much more active forum, too, and has lots of useful stickies. Here's one on the transmission issue: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/mecha...-problems.html

You hear about it a lot because the only people posting about the transmissions are the ones who experience the issue. Nobody posts about a transmission that doesn't break That being said, it appears that the problem is most likely to arise when you get people redline shifting on a consistent basis.

From what I've gathered, it's highly unlikely that a dealership will fix this issue free of charge.

I quite liked the Civic Si. Not bad styling (I prefer the sedan over the coupe), pretty quick, reasonably reliable, fun to drive. A little bouncy suspension-wise, but you also get a car that handles very nicely in exchange... go drive one and see if you like it. In your price range, you're going to be looking at one with 80-100k miles in good condition. There's plenty of people running those cars well into the 100k mile territory, so if you find one that's well maintained you should be fine.

Honda's golden age had came and left by the time 2006 came around.
