Default First car, need advice on used Forester

Hey y'all

So I'm buying a car soon, I'm getting into a trade and I need a vehicle to get around. I have a friend who offered to sell me her 2005 Subaru Forester for 3000$ with 200,000KM on it and she said the engine was replaced in 2014 by the mechanic she purchased the car from. No accidents, 2 owners and in good condition. I totally trust her but I have heard stories of major parts crapping out on foresters like the head gasket. She wanted to sell it for 4000$ but I told her that was over my budget and she dropped it down to 3000$ it seems like a good deal. And since I mountain bike and snowboard it would be nice to have a car with 4WD.

Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice or has experience with Subaru's or can tell me what the longevity might be on this car?

I basically want something that's cheap on fuel and is going to last and won't become a money pit which is why I was looking into getting a used Civic or corolla I know that's a lot to ask for 3000$ but from what everyone tells me is that corollas and Civics just last for a long time, but this forester does sound like a good deal.

Cheers

Subarus eat head gaskets, comes with the territory. That said one with a new engine (or so you are told) shouldn't have that issue. 200k KM on a car isn't bad at all. Sounds like a great price.
