Post A car for $4000, and what is normal km?

Hi, i'm 15, soon 16. I need a car to practise with! My budget is around $4000-4500, or 5000 if it's really good. The problem I have is that i don't know how much a car is worth. I live in Norway, so there's not a big variety of cars. I haven't really seen any cars under 60000 miles (~100000km) that looks nice in this price range. I found a BMW 3-serie E46 2000 model. It looks nice, costs $4000, but it has gone 122410 miles (197000km). Idk if that's ok, or is it too much? I like the car, but my father said there would only be problems with so much km (he is the careful kind of guy). He isn't a expert on cars, but he knows something.

Ok, my questions:

1. Is the BMW a good buy?
2. If not, do you recommend a car?
3. Any tips on how much km or miles is normal on used cars?

Please, an answer or at least a respond would be great!

120k isn't too bad for a E46, especially a 2000. Could probably go for another 100 if it's maintained properly. That will be your main concern over miles (though they can be a general guideline).

Buying a 15 year old BMW is going to be expensive in the long run with maintenance.

I dont think it is wise to buy an older german car for your first car. Your young, low income, and inexperienced. So if something fails on the car, you are screwed because of the outrageous cost of maintenance parts.

Honestly, stick with an older japanese car. Its cheap, fun and super reliable. Then once you are out of college, buy whatever your heart desires.

I live in norway, i won't have a hood income until i've graduated. So somethingl cheap to maintain, ok. But i can always buy new car in the future, since i'm aiming for engineer. I'll check out some cars that are cheap to maintain. Thanks
