Question Subaru WRX or Subaru Impreza 2.5i (~7k)

Hey, I'm new to this forum, and I'm looking for help with choosing a used car in the ~7k range, and I've been looking at '02-'07 WRXs and '06-'10 Impreza 2.5i's. Here's some info about me that is relevant to my purchase:
1. I'm a college student who commutes about 25 highway miles to school and 25 miles home on weekdays.
2. I've mostly driven a 2002 Impreza 2.5 RS, and I love the way it handles and hugs curves (if I get something other than a Subaru, I would prefer something with AWD that drives similarly).
3. The only complaint I have about the 2.5 RS is that it doesn't accelerate as much as I want it to at high speeds (which is why I'm considering a WRX).
4. I also love the small frame of the '02 Impreza. I'm looking for something around that size.

Is it worth it to get an older WRX with a turbo, when insurance rates will undoubtedly be higher, it will probably have higher mileage, and it probably won't be stock and will have been driven hard? Or should I go with a more docile, newer Impreza 2.5i, probably with fewer miles than an older WRX? Either way, I'm looking for a manual, and something with decent horsepower. The Impreza 2.5i's I have been looking at have about 170 hp.

Is there another AWD car in my price range that is comparable, or even better? I'm not trying to exclude everything that's not a Subie, but I've mainly driven a Subie for a few years, and I love it.

Thanks for the help in advance!

You can certainly find a 2002ish WRX which is left unmodified though you may have to be patient. That's what I have right now and it's been very reliable for me. I got it with about 113k miles, did all the proper maintenance like timing belt, seals, water pump, radiator, hoses, etc and it's been completely reliable. Total price tag with those maintenance bits came out to around $7k. That's what my choice would be.
Current Car
2002 WRX Stage 2+ w/ Cobb intake, Cobb EBCS, Mishimoto performance radiator, Cobb 3" downpipe, Greddy Evo2 3" Catback, StopTech slotted rotors & pads, stainless steel brake lines, 17x7.5 Gold BBS
Past: 2005 Volvo S60 R, 2003 VW Golf, 1998 Honda Accord
