Default Building a hood?

I was thinking of building a plastic hood because I am too cheap to buy a carbon fiber one. I would use the plastic with the x strips that reinforce it and just cut out the shape, cut stuff down here and there and then done. Do you think this could work? How strong does a hood need to be, and would it melt? I think wind resistance is the main issue. Can you see any flaws with the idea?

Shaping it and weight... I wouldnt bother. You would have to thermoform a plastic hood for it to work well and be worth it. Not to mention all the scratches and UV damage after just one yr of service.

What he said. You really aren't going to loose enough weight to justify getting rid of the original hood. How much can you sell your hood for?

yeah true the shaping would be a *****. I was thinking of just getting a spare hood from the junkyard and then cutting 90% of the metal off so its just a frame and then bolting a lexan square over it. But yeah I am 99.9% sure you are right and it needs to be bent to work otherwise it wouldn't clamp the frame right. What about a trunk? Trunks don't need to be strong. I could just saw off most the metal and replace it with a plastic and epoxy and bolt it in so its air sealed. Building cf probably costs as much as buying it. I will ask my friend he works in aircraft industry and builds cf parts a bunch.
