Default Hello from across the Pond

Hello everyone .

I'm Gaffer and I'm from across the pond in the UK.
I came across these forums whilst looking for info on my Honda Jazz (Fit in NA/Jap). The problem with the Jazz in the UK is that we don't get the 1.5l engine option over here...1.34l is the max and as a result, the engine bay is an inch or two shorter (car looks more "mpv like" than the US versions), so sometimes it takes me a bit of time finding info as quite a few things are slightly different.

Apart from that, I'm an anaesthesiologist and intensivist by trade and also a bit of a gadget freak - as well as a bit of a petrol head . Work can be stressful so the commute to and from work is a chance to unwind/smile.

An F1 and motorsport fan, I'd like to go to an F1 race at some point (but tickets are from about $400 over here - that's for a basic seat not grandstand ) so it looks like I may do a Le Mans trip first instead.
Would also love at some point to take my other car around Spa or Nurburgring.... if I were in the US it would be Laguna Seca .

Also like HiFi and tech stuff (currently trying to figure out why the DAB add-on in the car has stopped working) so may be asking you all some very basic Q's at some point.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling now ...

Heh, lucky. If I wanted to go around the 'Ring it'd cost an absolute fortune. Shipping a vehicle over, fueling the thirsty behemoth, lodging, bla-de-bla...It would prove hilarious though. Welcome aboard anyway.

And I agree regarding F1. If I did go to a race I'd go to the one in Austin, don't have to fly there, but being an inaugural race I'm sure I'd spend more on tickets than I spent on the vehicle I end up driving there...and besides you get better coverage on TV anyway. Another perk of watching it on TV: I don't have to sit in the sun for an hour and a half waiting for Vettel's car to break down...

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Welcome!

Someday I'd like to drive Road America, it's only 7 hours drive from me or so.

Thank you guys.

@Kenny - Yep, practise starts today for the inaugural weekend GP. I'm hoping this season isn't yet another bore fest (don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Vettel, but the Canada race where Button went from last to first was the highlight last year - more of that please for 2012 )

Same. Here's hoping McLaren can give RBR a proper run this year. Doesn't look like Ferrari will be able to muster anything, at least not in the first few races.

I haven't watched any of P2 yet. I've got it on the TiVO though. Gonna watch it later today most likely, I am quite curious to see the new cars running in sort-of anger for the first time.

I actually sort of do. He's 50% of why the races are boring. Every time he's allowed out front the race turns into a parade, and it only gets exciting if he has problems of some sort. Bad engine, tire problem, pitstop mistake, something like that. I honestly hope the ban on blown diffusers properly nerfs Red Bull and makes them equal to the other front runners on a car by car basis.

I also think that if we got rid of the Tilke circuits and pulled some of the tracks they used to run on in the 80s back into rotation we'd see a better season, even if Vettel remains as he was last year.

Haha, yeah, that was a good one.

Yep, they're posted in the What Car Do You Drive Thread

Re F1: Wow - what a good race. Nice to see other teams up there in the mix. If Mercedes can sort out reliability, they'll be up there too (DUring the first laps it was Mclaren 1,2 and Mercedes 3,4).
Feel sorry for Grosjean but GREAT drive from Kimi
