Default Crossed over from dogforum

Hi everyone,
I'm on one of the sister sites (dogforum.org) so I wanted to pop in and say hi to the folks here on the carforum.

Hubby has a 1999 Mercedes E300 Turbodiesel that I talked him into getting - what a mistake. I thought he would appreciate the quality engineering. So far there have been so many problems with stupid "features" (like how to get fresh air into the car, power window motor not working, annoying things like that) I'm sorry I ever got mixed up in it!

Anyway, I'll poke around and see what I can learn.

WELCOME ABOARD!!

Mercedes has been taking some big hits on the quality side lately, interestingly enough last year, Chrysler actually had a better quality rating than Mercedes did.

Thanks for the welcome.
I was a little disappointed about the Daimler-Chrysler merge myself. I lived in Germany for a long time and had a Jeep Cherokee with a diesel engine - I loved that Jeep it never let me down. So if I could have bought a Chrysler Jeep Cherokee diesel when I came back I would have. As it was Daimler took over and I didn't like what they did to the Jeep so I got a GMC Sierra.
And my German ex-husband was a fan of diesel Mercedes, but the W123 type. Easy to maintain, good quality, but I guess those days are gone forever.

You are right on about that. They took Jeep and bastardized the model line:

Commander
Compass
Grand Cherokee
Liberty
Patriot
Wrangler
Wrangler Unlimited

With THIRTY-TWO different trim models!!!

That is ridiculous, they have watered down the product line, even Jeep fans themselves aren't happy with the expansion of the model line. Cerebus/Chrysler LLC needs to eliminate all but three of the models, and keep only the Grand Cherokee, Liberty, and Wrangler. That is it, that is all, axe the rest of them. The Compass and Patriot are both jokes, and the Wrangler Unlimited is more like Limited, given its sales numbers, I don't know what jeep was thinking there, trying to make a Hummer clone or something.

Narrow it down to three total models, thereby streamlining the line, that is one thing that will help Chrysler survive, but there is a lot more that needs to be done.

The jeep line is alright all together but it's not like it used to be.

I doubt you can find a diesel Cherokee in the states anymore, as most of them died a long time ago, due to the troublesome and underpowered Renault engine. These were made back in the 80's when Renaults were still being sold in the states. The Daimler-Chrysler merger did put a diesel back into a jeep. This time a Mercedes diesel in the Liberty, which IMO is not as bad as the Renault motor.
