Default Headlights

On the bronco the previous owner took out the headlight switch and wired it to where if the truck is on the headlights are on... If I were to rewire this and put switches in for brights and regulars, would it hurt it to have both on at the same time? Not necessary but I was just curious if it would get to hot or something.

Have both brights and regulars on at the same time? Highly illegal....and everyone would hate you.

Having both on at the same time would burn out the bulb real quick... The housings should handle it fine, I've been running 80/100w (stock is 55/65w for 9007) for a few months and nothing's been damaged or melted from the excess heat.

But yeah, don't drive with your hi-beams on when there are other people around. It's dangerous to other drivers and illegal.

I know running higher wattage bulbs is technically illegal, but they're still a lot less bright and much safer than all the idiots running HID's in halogen housings.

I would not recommend using both sets at the same time! I would use a high amperage 3 way switch. Sometimes referred to as On-Off-On switches. Look for 20Amp + rating.

I was thinking it had the 2 separate bulbs next to each other like the old Ford trucks.

Haha I kinda figured it was illegal. I was just curious if it would hurt anything in the headlight from overheating or something. I wouldn't use it on the road. Probably just for fun in the mud lol. I planned on getting two switches so I could choose highs or lows or both.

My wife's Outlander has low beams on with highs.

A popular mod for Jimmys & Blazers is called the quad beam mod, to wire the low beams on all the time. Separate bulbs and housings.

Like I said, it probably won't hurt the housing or harness but you'll burn out the bulb pretty quick. Get higher wattage bulbs if you want more light.
