Default 98 Saturn SL 1 a/c compressor issues

Hey guys I'm new to the site but I am wanting some male opinions on an issue with my 98 Saturn SL1. I took the car to midas recently and I have gone to this place for the last three years and feel that I have gotten good honest service. I initially went in for my A/C as it is only blowing out warm air so I thought maybe there was a leak or maybe it was out of freon. They are telling me my compressor in cracked/bad, however the car is still running fine with no issues. The are quoting the repair at $967. I feel it may be too high of quote and am debating on buying another used car. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

AC repairs can get very expensive, that quote isn't out of the ordinary. I'd not bother with the repair personally, I don't think AC is worth $1000. But if you do need AC selling the car and getting one with working AC is a good idea.

Get a boneyard compressor for ~$50 and install it yourself and charge it.

Let me tell you the story of when my mom's a/c quit on the 1998 happened at 110,000 miles or so. It needed a new hose.....then a few months later it needed a new condenser, weeks later a compressor....lets just say within 8 months it had a all new under the hood a/c system at a scant $1300...that died again at 128,000 miles.
Do your part to increase minivan population, go bareback...its more fun anyways!

Or feel free to drive that SUV and argue its not just a raised station wagon....jus sayin.
