Default AC compressor issue

I Recently purchased a 1981 Honda Accord Hatchback... The guy I purchased it from switched the AC from R12 to R134a... I ran the AC today for maybe 10 minutes before it started making a really loud noise. When AC is off, the pulley turns and the belt moves fine but as soon as it comes on the belt seems to have trouble moving, when it does the noise starts. I really don't have much knowledge about AC systems so if anyone can shed light on what's happening I'd really appreciate it!

The compressor is seizing.

I know that the compressor oil needs to be compatible with the refrigerant, I don't know if you have the wrong combination.

Would that be a standard type of oil and refrigerant for r134a system? Would it be best to take this kind of issue to a shop rather than try to figure it out on my own? Thanks for the info, that gives me a way better starting point than I was at!

You will need a shop to do this work unless you have the tools and the training.

I used to do AC work many years ago, now at home I seldom work with AC.
